Ingredient Insider: Hyaluronic Acid

Let us introduce you to another skincare superhero: Hyaluronic Acid (HA).

Hyaluronic Acid is a hydrating substance naturally occurring in the skin that keeps it plump and youthful. It aids in collagen synthesis, retains skin moisture and is a key piece in cell generation. Sounds great, right? Except that 80% of Hyaluronic Acid in the skin is lost between the ages of 40 – 80.

So, let’s do something about it and give our skin what it needs. Hyaluronic Acid is considered a miracle moisturizer as it can hold 1000 times its weight in water and addresses both intrinsic aging as well as extrinsic aging from sun damage, pollution and other stressors. As a humectant, it draws water out of the environment and locks it into the surface of the skin. Products with HA help prevent transepidermal waterloss, reduce signs of aging and prevent dryness.

Look for HA in serums to layer with or add to your regular skincare routine. Or look for HA in the product ingredients listed in your moisturizer or night creme. You skin will thank you for the boost of hydration.

The Image Skincare Ageless Total Pure Hyaluronic Filler is a concentrated topical gel which contains six forms of lower and higher molecular weight Hyaluronic Acids to smooth away the appearance of wrinkles. It delivers an immediate, noticeable boost of hydration and fills in fine lines –without any injections.

If you are ready for a more dramatic change... Hyaluronic Acid is also used in actual ‘fillers’ that are injected to smooth out wrinkles and lines, fill in hollowness in cheeks or plump lips.

For example JUVEDERM® fillers are Hyaluronic Acid sponges that attract water and thus increase volume on the face. They replace the HA the skin has lost and instantly smooth out the wrinkles and folds on your face, or add volume to cheeks or lips. You’ll see the difference immediately. Regarding risks and downtime, talk to the doctor or provider of your choice and be sure to communicate what kind of look you are looking for.
