This one is definitely a tough one for me.. When you consume sugar or simple carbohydrates your body breaks down these carbohydrates into glucose. In a process known as glycation, digested sugar permanently attaches to proteins. Especially vulnerable are collagen and elastin: they become stiff, weak and less supple - as in sagging skin and wrinkles. Aside from increasing the effects of aging, glycation can also exacerbate skin conditions like acne and rosacea.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the maximum amount of added sugars men should consume per day is 9 teaspoons, or 6 for women. So if you see your energy drink has 34 grams of sugar, just divide it by 4 ... and you know what that means.
Check your ingredient lists for added sugars - your health and skin will thank you.
