How effective would a stain be on this surface? The same is true for our skin. Active ingredients in serums, moisturizers and creams can penetrate deeper and work better if they are applied to a clean surface. Cleansing your face is an important step in any regiment for healthy skin, as it will not only remove dirt, but will also help keep your skin's barrier function in tact. Over the course of the day, our skin accumulates not only sebum (the skin's own protective and lubricating oils), but also dirt, pollution, and don't forget that layer of makeup you put on. It is essential to loosen up this debris with a good cleanser and then wash it off with water before applying penetrating products that will help rejuvenate and regener...

As a rule of thumb products should be applied from lightest or thinnest to heaviest or thickest. Always start with a clean slate aka face. If your cleanser is not pH neutral, use a toner to set it back to a neutral pH. Next consider a serum - usually packed with goodness for your skin such as vitamins, antioxidants, hydration. A lotion or cream should add moisture and protection to your skin and seal in hydration. Alternatively, a face oil may do that job (depending on your skin type and needs). Lastly: sun protection. Allow for each product to soak in before you add the next layer. Makeup should be applied last. Happy layering!

For our skin - the body's largest organ - to renew itself, it takes approximately 28 day. (This process slows down as we age) That means to be able to see any changes in our skin from a new skincare routine, we need to be patient. Give products a good three months to determine if they work for your skin (unless there is an adverse reaction). Improvement of acne, rosacea, pigmentation issues, or simply unbalanced skin will take time. One condition that will always be visible and can easily be rectified is the hydration level of your skin. So watch your water intake and use your moisturizers! 💦

Homemade masks are fun and can be beneficial - and there a myriad of recipes out there. Keep in mind that ingredients such as lemon juice, cinnamon, or tea tree, while prominent in many skincare products, can be irritating or dangerous to the skin if used incorrectly. Cooking oils can be comedogenic. Another issue is contamination and growth of bacteria. So if you make a mask, use it and toss any leftovers. Retail and professional skincare products are carefully formulated to address specific skin concerns. So if you make your own, be sure to know what the ingredients are good for and use them in a safe way.

It Happens By Appointment. Nothing will transform your skin like regular facials. When professional treatments and products, the benefits of facial massages, de-stressing your skin and relaxation of mind and body go hand in hand with the power of the human touch, the results will show on your skin. Invest in regular facials. Your face is the first thing people see. 💆💆‍♂️

Every day, we as estheticians, see clients who live with acne, are unhappy with their sun spots, lines and dull complexion, battle rosacea and hide behind make up. Then they make a small step through our door and they change their life. Be that person. We will help you.

One of the primary function of the skin as an organ is protection. Healthy skin is a protective barrier against outside elements (UV and free radicals) and microorganisms. Sebum (oil) secreted by our pores, lipids (protective oils between epidermal cells), sweat and water together form the acid mantle that effectively protects the skin from water-loss and external factors: it is essential to keep this natural barrier function intact.

How does a compromised skin barrier look and feel? Dry, itchy, irritated, sensitive... To keep your skin radiant, plump and healthy, minimize sun exposure (wear sunscreen and protective gear), avoid overzealous exfoliation and harsh products and chemicals on the skin, keep your skin well hydrated (he...

In a time when human interactions are increasingly being replaced by apps, we often forget that the human touch can be powerful. Gentle stroking as performed in facial massage releases oxytocin which lowers cortisol, the stress hormone. But a facial massage does more: it helps loosen up tense facial muscles that harbor wrinkles. It increases circulation and oxygen flow to the face which increases collagen production for a healthy glow to the complexion. And facial massage helps products absorb better. So do your skin good and feel good with a facial. 😊💆

We are not so much worried about your manners, but more about lines manifesting around the lips. Repeated muscle movements are the foundation of lines and wrinkles. Keep on drinking your water, but lay off sucking bottles. Because we wouldn't want anyone to think that these lines are from - gasp - smoking. If you already spot them, hydrating products, special lip masks or even Botox might be your friend.

Why? In the process of skin regeneration, skin cells move to the topmost layer of the skin and die off. Their accumulation leads to dull looking skin and clogged pores. Exfoliation helps the natural shedding process, and there are different ways to do that: physical or chemical. Physical exfoliation includes anything from using a wash cloth, brush (manual or electric) to scrubs and microdermabrasion. These physically remove dead skin cells in varying strength. Chemical exfoliation can be done with enzymes (think pineapple, pumpkin, papaya, ...), or Alpha - or Beta-Hydroxy-Acids (think glycolic, lactic, salicylic, ...). These dissolve the glue in between the dead cells, or help dissolve the keratin altogether. These can range fro...
